Individual Edit & Evaluation

At the stage that this edit is at, as in my post detailing previous AS film research, and the reasons I gave the grades, I can only give my individual edit a level 2 as there is no use of foley and currently no titles. I think this is a justifiable grade as this was a rough cut to test what shots were necessary, what shots worked well, what shots didn't work so well, how to colour grade and to generally test my knowledge of final cut. Titles and foley sounds will be added for the group edit and the backing track (played by myself on piano) will be recorded properly for the right length of time and not just cut together.

As an edit there are some significant continuity mistakes here that will need fixing. Narrative is confusing - why is he pushed in the chair, jumps to light turned off, he fiddles with cuffs then the light straight on again? - this makes no sense. Why does he point a gun at him then change his mind halfway through?
It really lacks the tension and drama because it is lacking Close Ups - what about reactions, they are about to die? The choice of music is inappropriate, there is no tension or drama at all and kills the visuals - they are playing Russian Roulette they could die at any moment by the hands of chance, is this what that situation would sound like?
To improve: Reshoot pick ups shots necessary to make this work & be dramatic - watch 'Dearhunter' russian roulette sequence as we discussed to give you more flexibility with your edit.
